Cong MLA's son released after 9-months in captivity

GUWAHATI: Twenty-two-year-old Pradip Sarkar, son of Congress MLA Chandan Sarkar from Abhayapuri constituency in Assam reached home safely on Friday after being held captive by suspected ULFA and KLO militants in Bhutan for more than nine months.
Pradip Sarkar, said that he was released by the abductors with a massage to his father who is a legislator to impress upon the government not to launch joint operations against them and that they were releasing him on humanitarian grounds.
While describing his days in captivity, Pradip said, he was kidnapped by three motorcyclists from his ancestral home. He was made to walk for two days and kept in a temporary camp for six months in Bhutan where the armed militants not only fed him but also gave him new cloths.
He said after about six months he was shifted again where he was kept for two months till he was freed on Tuesday afternoon.
He was given Rs 10,000/- for on the way expenses and shown the direction to Barabisha in North Bengal. He said after walking for some time he reached the Highway on Thursday at about 4 pm from where he called his parents and gave them the news of his release.
Chandan Sarkar said he did not want to inform the Bengal police as it would have delayed his son''s return home thus he informed the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and made arrangements on his own to get his son from North Bengal with police escort from his constituency.
Sarkar said though he was not very hopeful of his son''s return but his wife Sapna Rani Sarkar who was also present at the time immediately quipped in, "I was always hopeful that my son will come back one day." No wonder they say 13 is lucky for some she definitely met her son on 13th after a gap of nine months and eight days.
